Update on the Status of Writercon. After much discussion the Writercon concom has made the decision to hold the third Writercon in summer 2009.
We're disappointed that the convention won't be happening in 2008, but due to hotel availability and weekends that clash with other gatherings, we were not able to make a 2008 Writercon happen at the same level of excellence you've experienced in the past. We apologize for the lack of updates while we were coming to this decision; like you, we were hoping and holding out for 2008, but it was just not feasible.
The good news is that we are confident that we can make a summer 2009 convention be all that you expect. We'll be able to announce the city and dates once we have a hotel contract in hand, and we plan to be able to make that announcement before summer 2008 rolls around.
Thank you all for your patience and your continued interest! You are what make Writercon great, and we look forward to a third convention with you.

Requesting an update Over a month ago I asked about Writercon and whether or not it would be held this summer. I was told that due to difficulties with finding a hotel to accommodate the con's needs, plans were still up in the air. It was also mentioned that Writercon could possibly be pushed back to 2009 and that when the decision was made, the community would be told.
It has been over a month and there still has not been an offical update regarding Writercon. Considering it is already March and there has been no confirmation about dates, location and so forth, I would assume that Writercon will not be held this summer, however, I would like to have a confirmation of the status of Writercon from one of the organizers. If it is to be delayed until 2009, I understand and I don't think people will be upset, but the lack of information from the organizers is troubling, especially when people are trying to arrange summer schedules, possibly book flights, etc.
Would someone please update with a post regarding Writercon? | | Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 | 1:32 pm [southernbangel]

Question for the mods/organizers So I'm guessing Writercon is not going to be held this year since there have been no announcements regarding dates and location and "official" answers to questions have not been forthcoming. However, regardless of whether Writercon will be happening or not, will there be an official announcement of the decision any time soon? Or are we just supposed to assume it will not be held this year? It would be beneficial to know something--even if the event is postponed until next year--so that people can arrange work/travel schedules. | | Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 | 11:05 am [wolfshark]

Any word on plans for Writercon in '08? I'm trying to figure out con plans for the year, and really want to go if it's happening! Current Mood: curious | | Monday, September 17th, 2007 | 5:12 pm [fiareynne]

A question: Are we still doing this thing for 2008? 'Cause I had a blast last year and I've been looking forward to the next one.
Do we just need hosting for the site? Because I can give you a corner of space on my hosting plan, no problem.
ETA: I didn't mean to put any undue stress on anyone, least of all the ever-awesome Chris, and as soon as I posted I realized how pushy it sounded. The offer for hosting, however, stands. | | Monday, August 13th, 2007 | 11:42 am [cissasghost]

Um . .. . . what's up with the website? www.writercon.com appears not to belong to WriterCon anymore. | | Saturday, June 23rd, 2007 | 7:05 pm [uisge_beatha]

Imajiru, anyone seen Imajiru? I asked, and Chris said it was fine that I posted this here... I remember talking to ... someone ... somewhere ... sometime ... during Writer Con in Atlanta who knew Imajiru. If that person, or really anyone, knows how to get in contact with her, can you pass that information along to me, or give her my info? We were part of XFR back in the day, and a smaller off shoot LuvFest, evolved into SmashFest, this summer is our 10 year Reunion and we're trying to get back in touch with anyone who has gone MIA in the last decade. Anybody else that knows what I'm talking about, drop me an email! We'd love to get updates on what the heck you've been doing, or if you want to come to Fest, I'll get you the details. Trailer for Firefly Unzipped My cohorts, krayat and lisatheobscure, and I got one of the trailers (a Brokeback spoof) we made for Firefly Unzipped up on YouTube. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAOY3kN1qeA. We are still having trouble putting the film online. It's fifty minutes long and using YouTube would require us to cut it into segments about two minutes long in order to work within file size limitations. The movie is 2.24 gigs or an mpg2 file. Dunno what that means, just repeating what I've been told. If anyone has some extra internet somewhere that could hold this monster, let me know. | | Tuesday, August 8th, 2006 | 7:30 am [slaymesoftly]

2006 reports It occurred to me that not everyone watches the Riters R Us community(gasp!), so I'm posting the link here for anyone who wants to read my reports of the panels I attended. I have posted individual reports on each panel at riters_r_us and they can be found there either in the recent entries or in the memories. Feel free to add, comment or correct anything that you remember differently - I am definitely not the world's best notetaker. | 2:24 am [shadowscast]

More Pictures I've just posted some pictures (well 50 something) from the Slasher's Meet Up and dinner at the Old Mill Thursday night. Many of the pics are friends locked or locked so that only the people in them can see, but there are also many open to the viewing public. Of course if you see a pic of yourself you would like removed or locked please let me know, also if you *can't* see a pic that as your name on it and would like to let me know and I will do some re-filtering. Well... I'm still behind, and struggling with network connectivity and other technological bugaboos. I do, however, realize that commentary from the chair may be in order. I also obviously have personal feelings about aadler's post, but I will post personal responsa on my personal journal, when I am able to catch up on all that's been said so far. Several points to my posting this morning: Of the first... I do wish to encourage people to link to their con reports here in the community, but please understand: the community is about the convention, not about the meta or the fandom per se, and I really don't want to see things overwhelmed by meta discussion here in this place. Lots of places to discuss the meta topics introduced here and at the convention, for that matter. Links to discussions growing out of the convention would be awesome. A feedback survey will go up within 2 weeks' time for those who would like to participate in commentary on the convention in a more anonymous setting, as well. Now... About "the post": The concomm will address what's relevant in terms of marginalized feelings, and although aadler certainly made the biggest splash with his commentary, there are several issues we want to address going forward coming out of commentary on his post as well as in others' con reports in their own journals. We are grateful for constructive feedback. However, we are now and will *always* remain open to a wide spectrum of opinions, genres, and topics. As we move forward in time, Writercon will broaden its scope, not narrow it, and to the extent that the present kerfuffling has provided us with rich feedback on what works and what does not work (in original posts and in comments to them), we are grateful for the discussion so far. So... My requests: 1. Conversations about the rhetorical constructs of any particular person's experience at the convention should be linked, not posted to the comm. I *like* having an open comm, so that anyone with a convention related idea or question can just post it, but I won't let this become metafandom in a nutshell, and given that over 300 writers and fans of writing attended the convention, and way more than that watching this comm, I don't want to get sidetracked on *any* one person's feelings or issues. 2. I would prefer folks to post links to their con reports as well, rather than directly to the convention (here's an already tagged post for it: http://community.livejournal.com/writercon/166023.html). I'm not going to go back and remove those that have already been directly posted, because there are only a few, and they balance fairly well. But honestly, it takes this comm somewhere it was never meant to go. If leaving the existing posts live devolves into name calling and personal attacks (which I've noted in yesterday's post already), I will reconsider this decision and go back and remove all personal reports posted directly to the comm and replace with links to personal journals where available. 3. It would greatly please me if we could call the discussion to a halt here in the journal unless you have something to say that is new and relevant to the con (and not each others' differing opinions regardless of the rightness or wrongness of them). This post is a great place to start fresh start or have your final say. But no more, here, please. Just transplant it to your own journals -- don't stop talking; it's important stuff. Link it here if you like, so others can find it. But I'm pleading with you not to let any one topic overwhelm the convention community as a place for information about the con and for planning the next one. | | Thursday, August 3rd, 2006 | 2:33 pm [aadler]

Library "catalog" update and POV handout I finally got on my butt, sitting down with the laptop to update the library fic list. Since every fic that was up for adoption was taken (before I got a chance to grab any!), I want make it easy to track down any new authors discovered at the library or at the readings. There's also a version in Word, for those who don't have Excel. I know some things are still missing or wrong, because I never got some emails, some people brought fic at the last minute, and (the most likely reason) I copied some information down wrong. If you had a story in the library and I missed it or got some of your information wrong, let me know. Thanks again to everyone who contributed. Also, here is the POV handout from the grammar panel. | 3:13 pm [bastardsnow]
